After eleven years in place, the vagrancies of the British climate have taken their toll on the sweeps of West Blatchington windmill and with health and safety a key element in today's world, it was decided that the worst affected of the two pairs, should be removed before the winter weather caused them to fail completely.

Peter Wellings has supplied some photos and historical information on Powder Mill, Furnace Bank Wood.
Peter believes that Powder Mill was originally an iron works but was converted into a Gunpowder Mill, from what he can tell, sometime before 1800. The Mill did blow up in 1855 with some losses he can see from archives but he does not know if it was rebuilt after this.
